Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulation (DRG)

If your pain is located below your waist and surgery and pain medications have failed to relieve it, talk to one of our physicians about dorsal root ganglion decision (DRG). Jax Spine & Pain Centers is proud to be a Center of Excellence for DRG in Jacksonville, FL.

What Is

dorsal root ganglion
stimulation?

Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulation is a form of neurostimulation that is very similar to Spinal Cord Stimulation. The treatment involves electrically interrupting pain signals traveling through the dorsal root ganglion, which serves as a hub for pain signals entering the spinal cord, so those pain signals cannot reach the brain.

What Does DRG

treat?

DRG is an effective treatment option for chronic nerve related pain that is localized to a specific part of the body. Common conditions that can benefit from DRG include:

  • Failed Back Surgery Syndrome
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) I or II
  • Peripheral Neuropathy
  • Pain after a surgical procedure
  • And more!

The benefits of

DRG Stimulation

There are three major benefits to DRG:

  1. Trial period. You get to try out the treatment with a trial period prior to committing to it.
  2. Minimally invasive. Both the trial and the permanent device are implanted through a small incision.
  3. Upgradeable & reversible. Technology is constantly evolving. As advancements to this treatment are made, we will be able to upgrade or remove your stimulator.

About the DRG

trial

With the DRG trial, you will wear a temporary device for 5-7 days. This trial allows you to test exactly how the therapy will work for you so you can see if it is a good fit.

During this time, we want you to really put the stimulator to the test. We want you to see if you are able to move around more, bend, lift, twist, etc. We want to know how much pain relief the therapy will bring to your individual life.

At the end of the trial, we will review and discuss how the therapy worked for you. Depending on your experience, we may recommend a permanent implant, but it is your choice. We want you to feel completely confident in the therapy and comfortable with your decision.

Who is a candidate for DRG?

The ideal candidates for DRG are patients who have pain in a well defined region below the waist. This could be knee pain, foot pain, toe pain, or even hip pain. If you can easily point out where your pain originates, you may be a candidate for DRG.
